| This carpet ball or carpet bowl is over 100 years old and is of original glazed hard fired clay. The design is an interesting one of white and pink or red plaid. Plaid was a favorite of Queen Victoria. The carpet ball is about 3.5 inches in diameter. It is quite heavy. The condition is very good. It has been used, and has a superficial flaw that looks to have been a manufacturing flaw. There are the usual tiny circle dents where the ball has been hit hard. Carpet balls were developed during the reign of Queen Victoria who reigned from 1832-1901, as a form of outdoor bowls to be played in the parlor. Original balls are very hard to find. These took me over a year. Currently they are valued not only as victoriana but as a decorative accent. Shipping in the US by USPS priority insured is $11.40. | |||||
