This is a wonderful albeit politically incorrect victorian children's playing card game called Happy Families. The antique card game is in it's original box featuring Master Tar the Seaman's Son on the front. The box measures 1 inch high by 4.25 long by 3 inches wide and has 35 cardstock cards and no suit marks making it a very early deck. The first was produced for the Great Exhibition of 1851. This carpet ball or carpet bowl is over 100 years old and is of original glazed hard fired clay. The design is an interesting one of white and black plaid. Plaid was a favorite of Queen Victoria. The carpet ball is about 3.5 inches in diameter. It is quite heavy. The condition is very good. It has been used,and has 1 area of glaze loss which actually is smooth and feels as if it were done during manufacturing, but as these balls go it's in very good condition.
