I bought this blackbird porcelain pie bird in Staffordshire, England at an antique fair. It is also called a pie vent or pie funnel. It measures 4 inches high by 2 inches wide by 1.75 inches deep and has a white painted dot eye. It dates to the I940-1950s and I thought it was cute! It is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. Pie birds were developed in the 1500s to release steam from a baking pie so the filling didn't boil over.

The knife rest dates to 1890-1910 and measures 3 inches long, 1.25 inches high, 2 inches wide and is in excellent condition. Knife rests were a victorian invention to keep the table cloth clean.
